The Illyrians: From Myth to History in the Heart of the Balkans

The origins of the Illyrians, an ancient people who inhabited the western Balkans, are a topic of debate among historians and archaeologists. The Illyrians are considered one of the indigenous peoples of the western Balkans, but their precise origins and ethnic composition remain uncertain.  The Illyrians were among the earliest known inhabitants of the western Balkans, occupying territories corresponding to present-day Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia, and parts of northern Greece. They are believed to have inhabited the region since at least the Bronze Age.
